MEP UGM X KANA COOPERATIVE : Synergize to Support Sustainable Agriculture in Agam Regency

News Tuesday, 5 November 2024

Hello #SobatMEP!🤗
On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Master of Agricultural Economics (MEP) lecturers attended a collaboration with Kana Cooperative organized by the Agam Regency Government related to counseling for sugarcane farmers in Kanagarian Lawang and Kebagarian Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam, West Sumatra. The event introduced the method of planting sugarcane using the ringpit technique. This method involves creating a ring pit around the sugarcane plant to increase the efficiency of water and nutrient absorption.💦🎋

Prof. Dr. Ir. Irham, M.Sc. as the head of the extension team from the Faculty of Agriculture UGM explained the academic point of view that the ringpit system has long-term benefits for soil sustainability and increased sugarcane productivity.

The counseling and training provided was well received by the Kana Cooperative as a gathering of sugarcane farmers in Agam. This extension is part of a long-term effort to build food security and the welfare of farming communities.✨🌏
